Das System unterstützt die Erfassung, Verwaltung, Recherche und Präsentation (Audiowiedergabe) von Digitalisierten Material. Der Name "Soundmuseum" soll keine Verengung des Blickes auf Akustik und Technik im musealen Kontext beinhalten, sondern ganz im Gegenteil wichtige Künstlerische Exponate, sowie vergängliche klangliche Gegebenheiten aus allen Ländern ausstellen.
